2021.12.05 01:52 goodrevduke Got lucky at the FLGS in the town I'm working in! Didn't know if I'd be home or out of town so didn't try to pre-order the Outcast stuff. Hit the FLGS near me, out of town, and turns out they only got one of each... kinda feel guilty.

2021.12.05 01:52 healthy-warrior30492 home with a decommissioned/abandoned oil tank underground

I hope for some advice/info from someone familiar with heating and oil. I am buying a home in NY that uses gas now and the home inspector said the basement has lines professionally sealed off from an oil tank underground. He told me get the certificate of abandonment from the home owner to show it was professionally done. I looked it up on the county records government permits website and it shows it was done professionally in 2011 right before the current owners bought it. It lists the company used and states "Filled with: Approved Foam. Tank Size 550".
On the company website (https://www.windmilloiltank.net/services.html) , it states their process is:
Prior to the abandonment, an approved waste oil truck with vacuum capabilities will remove any oil, water or sludge remaining inside the tank. Once the tank is vacuum cleaned, Speedy Dry is used to absorb any residual oil. Then, the underground oil tank is completely filled with approved foam. Lastly, the fill and vent pipes are removed and the openings are filled with cement to render the tank completely unusable. Upon completion of the work, a certificate of abandonment will be issued.
It looks like a lot, maybe half, of the homes on every block I look up have had this done with very few being "removed" and most just professionally abandoned. Is this a concern to health/safety or is it more common than I realize? I'm a first time home owner so I don't know how common this is and just looking out for the safety of my wife and child as we start our life in a new home.

2021.12.05 01:52 Mad_Season_1994 I overcame my fears tonight and did something I never thought I'd be able to...

Sing in front of my family. Yes, you read that right.
We had a birthday party that was also a gender reveal party for my cousin (don't worry, pyrotechnics were not involved). And since it was held at my uncle's big house, we decided to have karaoke in addition after dinner. I hesitantly agreed to perform a few days prior and spent most of my week rehearsing the two songs I wanted to play. One would be romantic, and the other would be kind of mournful in memory of my great-grandmother who recently passed at 103 years old.
You'd think playing for family would be a pretty nonchalant affair since you know everyone and they're not strangers. But no, it wasn't. I felt like I was playing at Wembley Stadium in front of thousands. It was a clear, cool night out and there they all sat. All ~30 of them. I tuned my late dad's guitar (which is actually right handed but I myself am left handed. It's just what I learned to play on before I got myself a left handed guitar), took a deep breath, and played One by Ed Sheeran. The only time I ever looked up was during pauses in the song to acknowledge them, and even then I just kind of looked past them but made it look like I was making eye contact.
And before I knew it, the song was over and I felt a new level of confidence and a weight lifted off my shoulders like never before and they gave me a thunderous applause. But, as I said, I also played a song more sorrowful but still uplifting. This was in honor of my great-grandmother I mentioned. I played the Beatles' The Long And Winding Road on a keyboard in honor of her since she saw them six times in her life. I had a backing track of the other instruments and just sang and played Paul's part. I felt 100x more comfortable playing this for some reason and again tried my best to just focus on my playing. And I crushed it.
So that's how my night's been. I left my family in happy tears and got over my fears. So yay me!
